A Snapshot of Service
in 'A' Company of the Argylls
Limni Mines, Cyprus 1958

Map of Cyprus
from the A&SH tray..........
Dhekelia, Cyprus, unarmed combat with fixed bayonets. The platoon Sergeant was 'demonstrating'. A young Jock didn't want to attack the Sergeant.
'Come on laddie, come at me!'
'Ah dinnae want tae dae that Sergeant.'
'Come on laddie, come at me, and that's an order!'
'Fair enough, Sergeant.'
In-out-on-guard! Splat, one rather large slash in the Sergeant's side! - gonnae no dae that?

'Ghandi', the 'A' Company 'char wallah' and Bert Steel, at Limni Camp

Ghandi's credit book contained a few obscure names like 'Roy Rogers', 'Donald Duck', 'Errol Flynn'....etc

One of the Jocks - who shall remain nameless - even ran up an account in my name!

I remember the day CSM Bert Lyons collared me about the number of Jocks like 'Donald Duck' etc, who had not paid their 'char wallah' account.

What could we do, but laugh?
