Save the Argylls ©

William Wilson

McTavish set off for London one day
Dressed in the brawest o' styles,
Wi' his Tammy, his Kilt,
His Plaid and his Dirk,
And a 'caird' that said,
"Save the Argylls."

To Parliament he wended his way
And Oh! what a crowd he saw there,
Workers wi' banners, saying "We want a rise!"
And McTavish could just stand and stare.

Barbara Castle cam oot o' the 'Hoose',
Sayin' "Hold on, till I look through ma files,
Yer pay rise is frozen-but what's that ower there,
That 'caird' that says 'Save the Argylls' ?"

Then Wilson cam oot wi his pipe in his hand,
And his face was aw' wreathed in smiles,
When McTavish shouts "Harold, stick that in yer car!"
A 'caird' that said 'Save the Argylls'.

Yes friends, it is true, the A & SH,
Aye fight best when they are riled,
An another Honour they'll add to their flag,
Tellin' "How they Saved the Argylls".

It concerns everyone, to see justice done,
So sign the petition to-day,
Let Parliament know The Argylls must not go
And we jolly well mean what we say!
