THE RISE AND FALL OF BALAI RING-IN

Anonymous - Signal Platoon
(With apologies to Lewis Carrol)

The Engineers worked wonders,
With their various splendid toys.
They dug the roads and smoothed the drains,
(And made a lot of noise).
And amateur photographers,
From many miles around,
Flocked in to take their happy snaps,
When the roller went to ground.
The rains came down and lashed the camp,
To liquify the earth.
And many a complex grader found.
A subterannean berth.
The water was a headache
For McNaughton and Sgt Grant;
Till the Doctor thumped the table,
And behold, a Paterson Plant.
Alas, this wasn't Jock proof
So we hired a local type,
Who, finding the process much too slow,
Disconnected the filter pipe!
The sun shone down and dried the camp
And the sky was blue and clear.
So the drains smelt and the flies appeared;
There's always a problem here.
And now it's raining hard again
and the drains are running free.
They'll soon be blocked when the sides collapse;
Anyone seen an Engineer?
